Anniversary Bike Ride

August 1, 2010

Today is D and mine’s 9th Anniversary so we of course slept in and then headed out for a late morning bike ride.

Normally I wouldn’t wear so much black but I haven’t done laundry yet so its what  I had :)

We decided to bike to somewhere we’ve never been to before in Edmonton, The Legislature Building and grounds

They do free tours of the building so we locked up our bikes and played tourists:)

I took a lot of photos during our tour but I’ll just post some of my favorite ones

This is the view looking up from the ground floor…The tour guide said the Palms have been up there for about 50 years and could survive another 150-200 years

After the tour we bike around the grounds  a bit

Another lovely day at the Farmers Market

July 31, 2010

Hubby and I biked to the Farmers market downtown ..I think this is my favorite local market even though its not year round.

Our 1st stop

I tried the Cinnamon waffle this time with the whipped cream and strawberry sauce. D also had the cinnamon waffle but  with Blueberry top on his.  I think I’m in love with the Cinnamon but I’ll try the maple one next time.

I picked up some slender long beets from Sundog Organic,  I’ve always just bought round ones so this will be a treat. I also purchased sweet carrots from Khulmann’s, baby potatoes from Greens & Ham and Gully Valley yellow sugar cherry tomatoes. I’ll be roasting them all this weekend for supper.

Look what else we spotted at the market

This Macaw and his owner (to the right) were shopping at the market too and the owner let the parrot perch on another shoppers shoulder for a bit..  I was happy to have been able to snap a few pictures.  Its really hard for me sometimes to shop, take pictures and walk at the same time LOL  remember I’m pretty klutzy!!

Much Love & Happy Biking!!

I’m just a klutz & a chance meeting

July 30, 2010

Good News!!

My toe is not broken. Bad news is I’m just a klutz.  Hubby made me go back the the clinic this morning for an x-ray and that was the final result. But YAYYYYY bike riding again.

When we got back home I immediately changed into some fresh clothes, grabbed my bike and headed out to Planet Organic for Greek yogurt.

Guess whoI saw leaving Elm Cafe with her homies!?!  Yep, Miss Sarah Chan of Girls & Bicycles …I was quite excited as I had to cancel a meeting with her and Judy(Penner Chronicles) a few weeks ago though Im sure I may have startled her when I yelled out her lol..She immediately recognized me and gave me a hug too:)

The meeting was even funnier because when we were coming back to our bldg from the clinic hubby spied a bike and asked what it was..I said “hmmm Electra Amsterdam”  and I thought I recognized one of Miss Sarah’s friends, Raffaella, from a photo I’d seen but since Sarahs back was to me I did know 100% if it was indeed her.  Awesome that it was though:)

Miss Sarah is as nice as she is online though I felt like a giant standing next to her..She had on a pretty summer dress and checked out Eliza too:)  Made my weekend too as she was one of the first women that bike in Edmonton blogs I ever read and has been a huge influence on how and why I bike now.

Tomorrow I plan on biking down to the Farmers Market for peaches and a few other goodies and if it isn’t totally hot a short but scenic ride somewhere.

Much Love & Happy Riding!!

P.S. If you live or come to visit Edmonton I highly suggest visiting Elm Cafe at 117 Street & Jasper Ave. They have great sandwiches, muffins, and coffee.

Kickstands

July 29, 2010

Eliza needs a kickstand badly!! I having to find a wall to prop her up against and when Pashley arrives it will make it harder to arrange the bikes in the bedroom.

I was going to try and do something like Deborah from Loop-Frame Love did here but the mounting plate wont work with Eliza because of her rod brakes.

Soooo if anyone has any ideas I’d really appreciate it …I’d love a double kickstand but at this point I’ll entertain any ideas

Broken

July 28, 2010

Blog posts may be few and far between for the next two weeks as I broke my toe today.  No working out and so no biking either:(  I may have a few entry’s prattling about other bike related things but no actual biking posts.

P.S.  I slammed my toe up against the coffee table really hard this morning and didn’t even look at my toe until after I got home from biking to the grocery store..lol

Where Eliza Blushes

July 24, 2010

I took Eliza out to the Farmers Market this morning to meet up with Judy from the Penner Chronicles(her website is on my blogroll to the right)

While walking Eliza up  the market strip to secure parking we were stopped by a gentleman who admired here and checked her out from wheel to wheel.   He was appreciative of the condition she was in and asked me to take good care of her..We swapped names and shook hands and went our separate way …Of course it could have been my imagination but I think she actually preened a little.

While waiting for Judy I picked up a early birthday present for Willow the kitty..A really nice cat tree so yeah, not even at the market for 10 minutes and I have spend 65$ lol

After Judy arrived we walked down the market and stopped at Eva Sweet Waffles for some of the best waffles I’ve ever had.  I splurged a bit since tomorrow is my birthday and had a vanilla waffle with some strawberry sauce and a bit of whipped cream…YUMMY!!! (Thanks Judy for the birthday waffle)

Picked up peaches, locally made sourdough bread, homemade raspberry jam with bits of Belgium chocolate pieces, and some cauliflower.

I think we walked up and down the market a few times so I got a good workout in including the biking there and back.

Judy then headed to Red Bike to visit her awesome hubby and I headed up to spend some time with my weary husband.  Unfortunately I did make him take me to the grocery store and Old Navy…Cute tops were purchased and I’ll showcase them in another post as they are very bike apparel worthy.

I hope everyone is getting lots of biking  in or if its hot where you are I hope you are staying hydrated and cool:)

Much Love & Happy Riding!!

Offline

July 24, 2010

Please note that from August 2nd through 5th or 6th the blog will be offline as I implement the new blog name and quite possibly move everything to blogger.

So far the only bad thing I can think of in the migration is that I’ll lose all previous comments.  Hopefully I can make this a smooth transition though.

Baskets and Tyres

July 23, 2010

Well Eliza finally got a basket!! I’m not entirely sure I’ll be keeping the brass plaque on it but the basket itself suits her well.

I’m also having the most awful time getting the Schwalbe Delta tyres incream here in Edmonton so if any of my readers are in the Boston area and can inquire for me and maybe facilitate the purchase I can pay via paypal….I’m not in a rush now but I’d like to try and start sending out feelers now.  Thanks in advance!!!

ETA: I’m ordering the tyres through Calhoun Cycles in the States. The shipping is pretty high but will be worth it in the end

Eliza also kicked my butt going up the hill on the other side of High Level Bridge..Yep we had to walk it but coming down was less scary than I had anticipated which is a good thing.   I also need to order new brakes pads soon.

Much Love & Happy Riding!!

P.S. I also need kickstand ideas as she needs on desperately

P.P.S. I found a Carradice Barley Saddlebag for49$ CANADIAN!!!  I can’t find it less than 100$ USD in North America either so Yeah baby you will be mine…that will give Eliza even more storage :D

Happy Birthday to me!!

1st Eliza Upgrade

July 22, 2010

I’m going to be ordering new tyres for Eliza either tonight or tomorrow.  I was going to take her out this morning but she is low on air and I’m not confident about her original tyres to keep putting air in them.

I’m putting Schwalbe Delta tyres on her in Cream and swapping out her European tubes with weird valve to different ones too. Lord I’m such a bike boob errr noob!!  They are schraeder valves LOL

In the meantime I’ll try and figure out how to use her original pump so I can take her over to Red Bike with me so all can admire her:D

Much Love & Happy Riding!
