A weekend of biking

Yesterday was our 8-year anniversary and it was a nice morning so we decided to bike to the Farmers Market downtown.  Of course when we got there I had forgotten the bike lock key at home so we had to turn around, go home and then go back again.  I thought it was quite amusing as I tend to not let stuff like that bother me.

We wandered around but didn’t buy anything other than a snack and then headed across the river.

One thing about me, I HATE bridges but of course we had to ride over one to get across the river.  The specific bridge we crossed over the the High Level Bridge.  I made it across with minimal stress which was a good thing for me.

We stopped off at Red Bike and I test rode the Rocky Mountain Sherpa 30 touring bike.  This was the 1st time we’d even been there and it was a very nice moderate sized shop.  All of the staff was really helpful so we’ll be shopping there again.  I was quite surprised that they let me test ride a 1600.00 bike without even holding a credit card or I.D. or something.

The bike itself was  great ride. I was worried that it wouldn’t support my weight as I am an Athena but I had no problems, well o.k. I did have one,  I’m not used to drop down handle bars and I’m not sure that I would keep them if I bought the bike next year.  I think I would have butterfly style ones installed.

I didn’t test ride the Pashley though so that will be when I go back and order my front basket and get a cycle computer.

This morning we wanted to get a ride in before the expected thunderstorms started so we once again biked from our house to across the river and then to our favorite organic grocery store. I wanted to see how long it would take us so we can start going every two weeks for groceries.  I’m happy to say it was about a 35 minute ride including small breaks for a drink.

I still love my bike and I wish Specialized made a touring bike (well maybe they do, I should check) because I’d probably buy one in a heartbeat.  I’m not really interested in Treks, Surly’s, or other brand and I certainly dont want to ship a R.E.I. tour bike up here to Canada.

We also need to start buying camping equipment and I need to make a run to M.E.C. tomorrow for a small handlebar bag.
